Fashion Guide: Hot Summer Patterns

Hey there Fashionistas!

It's Lacey M. Carroll Photography, here again, to give you the low-down on what trends have been happening on the runway and in fashionista circles everywhere!

A few weeks ago I was invited to an awesome event with designers from around the globe and I got some insight into what to look out for this summer and fall. So I've translated the looks I saw on the runway into wearable, teen-friendly outfits your clients will go gaga over!

GO GINGHAM GO!

Gingham has made its way back into our good graces. This preppy pattern that was all over the fashion map about a decade ago, has made it back into rotation but with a REALLY cool twist. From accessories to shirts, pants, and skirts it's literally EVERYWHERE this summer. This romper (pictured below) is FIRE! Love this shot by Selessa from SelessaStudio and pairing it with those lace up cream shoes is perfection!

Emil from Slice of Lime Photography is always on trend with her looks. Check out these gingham pants her client is rocking!

These gorgeous gingham skirts (shown above) REALLY show off that gingham can go beyond casual and with gathered and wrapped silhouettes they can look downright classy!  If casual is more your jam, don't forget that classic red gingham, made popular by A-line dresses in the 1950's. This time, avoid the A-line silhouette and opt for more modern looks. Pairing red gingham with denim is a sure-fire way to really emote that summer flair in your photos.

GO GREEN WITH YOUR PATTERNS!

Green has been SUPER popular for the last 2 years, and guess what? IT'S STILL GOING STRONG! From Olive to Kelly it's still a staple in stores and on the runway! You can go from casual, to dressy with green patterns, that's why I love it so much!Check out this casual Frida Kahlo inspired look from Slice of Lime Photography that incorporated green in both the top and bottom AND the scenery! If you don't know who Frida Kahlo is, definitely google her. She was a style ICON and artist who truly marched to the beat of her own drum.

And while we head down that Frida-inspired road, here is one from my own portfolio that incorporated more green! I'm telling you, you cannot go wrong with this color right now!

Shown above I am obsessed with patterned rompers, they can be dressed up or down with a simple shoe change and accessories. And if you happen to have a client who isn't into heels and jewelry, you can still get a fashion-forward look by pairing it with that gorgeous lace pull-over and converse!

GO BOLD. GET FUNKY.

It's ok to 'GET WEIRD' if your client is wanting to really stand out, it can be SUPER fun to really go bold with your patterns and colors!

Bold florals, rainbow stripes, and funky retro patterns like this one show on the right are REALLY trending. Incorporate some pattern into your clients looks to really break up their gallery!

GUYS CAN GO PATTERNED TOO!

Aren't you tired of plaid on your male clients? I am! Pictured below, my client Isaac let me dress him in this super cool cacti patterned shirt. (I found it at TJMaxx from $19!) We paired it with a denim jacket he brought from home and this Kenneth Cole jacket from my style closet. Layering is key with guys portraits!

So that's all for now folks! Stay tuned next month for more inspiration!

Xoxo,
