Eye on Fashion: A Teen’s Perspective // Mom’s Closet

We’ve all had those times when it seems as if there’s absolutely NOTHING to wear in our closets, right? No matter how hard you look, everything you own seems really over-worn or just not appealing.

So what do you do? Go shopping? Wear sweatpants?

How about go down the hall and look in your mom’s closet?

Little-known-fact about Kennedy: I probably take about a fourth of all my outfits from my mom’s closet-  parent’s closets are often a gold mine of outfit inspiration.

Don’t think that mom has anything worth using? Here’s a couple items that you’re likely to find in her closet that you can use to create a trendy look:

If you can get your hands on a plain white button-up dress shirt(Dad’s closets are also great for this), endless looks can be created. The nice thing about white is that it can be paired with any color and still match. Wear the dress shirt buttoned up with some skinny jeans, or leave it unbuttoned with a t-shirt or colored camisole underneath. If it’s long on you, belt it around your waist and wear it as a tunic with some thick leggings or skinny jeans. The possibilities really are endless.

Blazers are VERY much in style right now~ if your parent has a business blazer, roll up the sleeves and throw it on over a pair of ripped denims and slouchy graphic tee!

3. And of course, there’s always the wonderful assortment of clothing items from the past! Crazy funky jewelry, black leather pants, weird patterned dresses, etc. Fashion is cyclical, so if your parents like to hang on to their old clothes, there’s bound to be some super stylish vintage piece lurking in some dark shelf something 🙂 Have fun with it!
